July 2025 Newsletter

Greetings from SudanDefenders!
Dear Readers,
Welcome to the July edition of our newsletter, where we highlight the alarming human rights violations that took place this month in Sudan amidst the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces. Our comprehensive newsletter draws from ground-level observations, credible judicial documents, and insights from various human rights organisations and UN agencies.
In this issue, we delve into the myriad of violations affecting civilians across different states, including tragic instances of extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions, sexual violence, and forced displacements that have resulted in significant humanitarian crises. Our monitoring teams have documented the impact of targeted attacks on IDP camps and medical facilities, as well as the distressing conditions faced by those forcibly displaced.
We also shine a light on the difficult circumstances confronting human rights defenders in conflict zones, emphasising their resilience in the face of severe restrictions and threats. Through this newsletter, we aim to uncover the patterns behind these violations, examine their underlying motivations, and present actionable recommendations to safeguard civilians, ensure accountability, and put an end to impunity.
This month, we feature Nusiba Ibrahim, a feminist activist from Kassala, Eastern Sudan, whose experience highlights the power of community and resilience in these trying times.
I invite you all to delve into our July newsletter here.
