Greetings from Sudan Defenders!
Dear Readers,
As the Chairperson of the Board of Directors at SudanDefenders, I am both honored and grateful to address you during these challenging times in Sudan.
Amidst the rapid and often devastating developments in Sudan’s human rights and humanitarian landscape, I am pleased to introduce the May edition of the SudanDefenders newsletter. This issue provides a review and analysis of the most critical violations and challenges, with a particular focus on protection and accountability.
Our May newsletter highlights the collapse of the health system, the deepening humanitarian crisis, ongoing human rights abuses, and the fragile political and security environment across the country. From the spread of infectious diseases and displacement of civilians to reports of war crimes and stalled political dialogue, the situation remains dire and demands our collective attention.
At SudanDefenders, we believe that knowledge is the first step toward change. It is our hope that this newsletter not only informs but also inspires continued advocacy, solidarity, and action for justice and dignity in Sudan.
Each day, we witness the resilience of our communities and the tireless efforts of activists, human rights defenders, and everyday citizens who strive for justice and peace amidst adversity.
In this edition of the newsletter, we profile Zahraa Abdel-Naeem Mohamed Abdullah, an expert in the field of women in the state and head of the Darfur Women’s Platform. Her story is a testament to the importance of working together in these trying times.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to SudanDefenders and the people of Sudan. Let us continue to work together toward a future where every individual can live with dignity, safety, and freedom.
I invite you all to delve into our May newsletter here.
Shawqi Yaqoub
Chairperson, Board of Directors
